Introduction to Yoga
I’ve been teaching this popular 4 week beginners’ course since 2016. It sprang from meeting many students over the years who had almost given up on yoga after a bad early experience – usually attending a dynamic, gym-based class that left them feeling at best, clumsy and inadequate; at worst, injured. Over the 6 hours of the course, we explore some of the basics of yoga movement, breathing and balance, learning how to practice safely and when to insist on adaptations or alternatives from the teacher. But most importantly, we practise interoception (sensing what’s happening in my body) and self-determination (making choices based on what I feel). The course is great for people coming back to yoga after injury, childbirth or a long break, as well as for curious newcomers.

Yoga for Writers
This five-day retreat is hosted by the Arvon Foundation at its centre in Devon, and is designed for writers at any stage of their careers who would value time and space to stretch both mind and body. As someone who makes her living as a writer, I have learned first hand the importance of taking good care of the body when so much of your time is spent “in your head”. I have developed an approach that counterbalances the physical and mental demands of a writing life with a combination of dynamic and restorative posture work, and intelligent use of the breath. I also teach a variety of simple, non-religious relaxation and meditation techniques that students can easily incorporate into their daily lives.
